Here are some guys doing something really great for the indie rock community.
Better Than The Van is working with touring artists to provide places for them to stay while on tour. Having been in that situation, this site is a godsend for touring (re: poor) musicians. I wish I’d have thought of it first! There have been quite a few times when the band I was with would have to make a 3 or 4 hour drive back home because getting hotel rooms (even cheap roach-motel rooms) wasn’t financially feasible.
To continue this much-needed service to musicians, Better Than The Van is trying to raise funds for a site overhaul, along with adding some features that would really put their service over the top. Check out the Better Than The Van page on Kickstarter to see all the details.
As someone who’s been on the road with a band, I see a huge value in the service this guys provide, and subsequently, will be donating to their cause. As a fan of indie music, I would urge you to do likewise, since it can only help enable more new indie bands to tour in and play in your locale.
